Technician of the Year Awards
Guidelines
Technician of the Year Awards may be given at the ALAT,
LAT, and LATg levels. Award nominations should be returned to the KY
Branch AALAS Awards Chair by February 14th
Criteria for KY Branch AALAS Technician Awards
Nomination packets that do not specifically meet the
below criteria, will not be considered.
- 1. The nomination packet should be
received by the current Awards Committee chair by February 14th.
- 2. The nominee and nominator must be
KY Branch AALAS members.
- 3. An individual is only eligible for
an award at his/her highest level of certification at the time of
nomination.
- 4. Nomination packets should
consist of only three parts:
- a. The nomination letter must follow precisely the
letter format described below, and should not exceed three double
spaced typed pages.
- b. Endorsements must include only the three
one-page letters specified as the following:
- Branch endorsement to include membership
standing,
- Letter from nominee’s
director/manager/supervisor
- Letter of support from any other source
applicable
c. Proof of AALAS certification
level and date received (may be photocopy of actual certificate).
5. Nominee for a Branch award may be a
previous branch award winner at the nominated level.
6. Nominee should be responsible for
animals within his/her job function.
7. Nominee’s position must not exceed
that of a unit supervisor, and must not include managerial
responsibilities.
8. If none of the nominees are deemed
qualified, no award shall be given.
Format for Nomination Letter
- 1. Description of position held and
job responsibilities.
- 2. Individual contributions toward
smooth operation of unit functions.
- 3. Benefits to facility of employment
as a result of nominees personal projects, achievements, or efforts.
- 4. List any additional learning or
information programs with or for others the nominee has participated in
other than AALAS (ex. career days, 4-H, etc.)
- 5. List additional certificates earned
or pertinent education received.
- 6. List activities that promote AALAS.
- a. Branch-
years active, offices held, presentation of papers or program
involvement.
- b. District-
years active, offices held, presentation of papers or program
involvement, special activities associated with District V meetings.
- c. National-
participation may be included but is not required.
PLEASE MARK EACH PACKET WITH THE LEVEL OF THE AWARD
Judging Criteria for Technician Awards
- 1. Major emphasis should be given to the day-to-day
job performance of nominated individual.
- 2. Participation on Branch and District levels should
be weighted heavier than National AALAS participation which may be
included but not required in the packet.
- 3. Nomination packets should strictly follow the
awards format, if not, the nominee should not be considered.
- 4. If the nominees submitted do not meet the
nomination criteria, no award shall be given at that certification
level.
